Please note that Switzerland only has annual vignettes available for vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight, which includes motorbikes, trikes, quads, cars, and trailers. It is mandatory to purchase an annual vignette, even if you are only driving through Switzerland for one day. Additionally, certain tunnels in Switzerland, such as the Great St. Bernard Road Tunnel and Munt-la-Schara Road Tunnel, charge separate tolls.

Current traffic situation in the Switzerland

Switzerland has two types of highways: motorways with a standard speed limit of 120 km/hour and expressways with a standard speed limit of 100 km/hour.

Two of the most significant highways in Switzerland are the A1 and the A2. The A1 runs from St. Margrethen, located in the northeastern canton of St. Gallen, all the way to Geneva in the southwestern part of the country. The A2, on the other hand, connects Basel in the northwestern region of Switzerland to Chiasso in the southern canton of Ticino, near the border with Italy.

You can either buy an e-vignette or purchase a vignette with a sticker. If you decide to buy the sticker vignette, you must affix it to the windshield. Heavy vehicles weighing more than 3.5 tonnes are exempt from the vignette requirement and are subject to the heavy vehicle charge instead. Additionally, tolls are charged separately for the Great Saint Bernard Tunnel and Munt-La-Schera Tunnel, in addition to the vignette.
